LEWIS CENTER, OH · SINCE 1986

Lewis Center OH Chimney Sweeping

A swept flue should come with more than a brushed chimney. Blackburns Chimney Services finishes Lewis Center chimney sweeping with a plain-language report on hazards or repairs. We remove creosote, soot, and debris on the visit. When you need to see the lining, a video inspection shows cracks, blockages, and wear that a look from the hearth can miss.

THE REPORT

What Should I Expect in the Report After a Sweeping?

Every cleaning includes an examination and a report on hazards or repairs. The report is in plain language. Photos or video are part of inspection reports when a camera inspection is the visit, which is separate from the routine Level I check.

What the sweeping report is there to do:

  • ◆Record hazards or repairs the technician found
  • ◆A report in plain language, not codes alone
  • ◆Follow a Level I look at readily accessible areas
  • ◆Reflect how often that fireplace is used
  • ◆Sit alongside the removal of soot, creosote, and debris
  • ◆Give a next step when the flue needs more than a sweep

A Level II report can include video because that inspection uses a camera. Do not expect that scan on a routine sweep unless you asked for Level II. The chimney inspection page explains the levels.

Sweeping in Lewis Center

Lewis Center homeowners get a chimney cleaning and a written report.

Cleaning, Then the Report

Soot, creosote, and debris come out, and the report follows the examination.

Plain Language

The company writes explanations so the condition of the chimney can be understood without a trade glossary.

Use Is Part of the Story

How often the fireplace runs changes the wear and buildup the technician watches for.

Level I, Unless You Need More

The included check is visual and limited to readily accessible areas.

Cameras When Inspection Calls for Them

Video scans belong to Level II and to camera inspections, not to every sweep by default.

COMMON QUESTIONS

What Homeowners Ask About Chimney Sweeping

What will the written report say about fire hazards?
Every cleaning includes an examination and a report on hazards or repairs, written in plain language. Creosote that can lead to a chimney fire is the kind of hazard that report is there to name, along with whatever else the technician saw in readily accessible areas. The Level I check included with the sweep is visual. It asks whether the flue is unobstructed for continued use. The report is not a video. If you need pictures of a hidden flue after a fire or for a sale, that is Level II, and the camera portion is what puts video in an inspection report. Read the sweeping report as the record of the cleaning and the visual check.
Does that sweeping report include a video of the flue?
Not by default. A routine sweep includes Level I, which is a visual check of readily accessible areas, plus the removal of soot, creosote, and debris. The video scan is part of Level II. Level II also looks at attics, basements, and crawlspaces, and it is the inspection used after a chimney fire, for a home sale or transfer, or when the appliance changes. During a camera inspection, homeowners can see the flue on a monitor. Photos or video in a report belong to the visit that used a camera. If you want that record, ask for Level II when you call. It is not silently added to a sweep.
Walk me through the sweeping before the report is written.
Brushes and rods are matched to the flue so a masonry chimney and a factory-built chimney are not cleaned with the same tool. The room is covered: drop cloths, rug runners, shoe covers, a high-speed vacuum, and a tarp on the fireplace. The crew then removes soot, creosote, and debris from inside the home and from outside, including the smoke shelf and the firebox. Creosote removal follows whichever of the three levels is present. Level I looks at readily accessible areas. Only after that examination does the plain-language report get written, listing hazards or repairs. The mess-free setup is what keeps the house as they found it while this happens.
How do I reduce the buildup they keep finding?
Have it removed on the routine visit instead of waiting for it to stay in the flue. Sweeping takes creosote, soot, and debris out, and the method changes with the creosote level. The Level I annual check that comes with every sweep is when readily accessible areas are looked at again, including whether the flue is blocked. How often you burn changes how quickly buildup returns. Tell the technician that pattern so they watch for the matching wear.
After a chimney fire, which visit is the right one?
Level II. It includes the Level I visual check, then adds a video scan of the flue and inspections of attics, basements, and crawlspaces. Blackburns Chimney uses that level after a chimney fire, and also when a house is sold or the appliance on the flue changes. A standard sweep, even with its creosote removal and Level I look, is not that scan. If the damage looks like a major hazard in a concealed area, Level III may open drywall or siding, and only after you consent. Say there was a fire when you book, so the visit is not set up as a routine cleaning. The chimney inspection page separates these levels from the sweep.

"The whole experience was pleasant. I was able to schedule an appointment on a Saturday (unexpected), the receptionist was very friendly and the sweep was very knowledgeable, professional, and courteous. It could be my imagination, but I think he left the room cleaner than what it was when he first arrived."

"On time, polite, knowledgeable, and honest, fair prices. I was expecting to be told that I needed thousands of dollars of work done to my chimney and, to my surprise the sweep/inspector was honest as to the extent of repairs needed. It is nice to have honest people (especially in this economy) that are not trying to sell you on things you don't need."
